2027: Kwara Women Mobilise Support for APC Governorship Candidate Danladi
Kwara women have pledged to mobilise massive support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The pledge was made by former Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mopelola Abdulmalik-Bashir, who led a group of women to the Kwara Central Women in Support of the SYD programme held in Ilorin on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Abdulmalik-Bashir expressed confidence that women across the state would play a decisive role in the APC's campaign, promising that they would work to deliver total support for Danladi-Salihu at the polls.
She also predicted that Ilorin would provide the APC candidate with a significant share of his votes, saying the people of the emirate understood the importance of political inclusion and cooperation among the different parts of Kwara.
"Danladi's largest votes will come from Ilorin. Ilorin understands what inclusion means," she said.
She described Danladi-Salihu's emergence as the APC governorship candidate as a demonstration of political inclusion and a continuation of the understanding that produced the O'toge movement.
According to her, the 2027 election provides an opportunity for the state to consolidate the gains of the movement by promoting trust, inclusion and political cooperation.
Abdulmalik-Bashir commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what she described as the political courage to support an arrangement that gives Kwara North the opportunity to produce the next governor.
She, however, cautioned against interpreting the arrangement along ethnic or sectional lines, stressing that the O'toge movement was primarily about changing the political order in the state.
The former commissioner described women as a formidable political force, citing their numerical strength, grassroots networks and influence across communities.
She said women would take the message of inclusion to the grassroots and mobilise support for the APC and its candidate ahead of the election.
Abdulmalik-Bashir also urged Danladi-Salihu, if elected, to sustain and expand policies targeting women, particularly in the areas of political inclusion and economic empowerment.
She expressed confidence that the performance of the AbdulRazaq administration, the APC's political structure, the support of women and Danladi-Salihu's candidacy would strengthen the party's chances in 2027.
