Court Adjourns Saraki, Ahmed's Offa Robbery Case to July 21 Over Recusal Application
A Kwara State High Court has adjourned proceedings in the Offa robbery case involving former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed until July 21, 2026, to hear a motion seeking the recusal of the presiding judge.
Saraki, through his legal team led by Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), asked Justice Abiola Solalale Ajayi to withdraw from the case, citing concerns over possible prejudice and conflict of interest.
In the motion filed on July 13, the defence argued that Justice Ajayi is also presiding over a civil suit, Yusuf Aishat Ibikunle & 2 Others v. Governor of Kwara State & Others, which arose from the same Offa robbery incident.
According to the defence, Saraki and Ahmed are the third and fourth defendants in the civil matter and the first and second defendants in the criminal proceedings. They contended that the key issues in the civil suit are substantially intertwined with the allegations before the court in the ongoing criminal trial.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to July 21 for the hearing of the motion on notice seeking the judge's recusal.
