Kwara Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Defrauding Job Seeker of N300 Million
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested Adeola Badru for allegedly defrauding a federal political appointment seeker, Joseph Olugbenga, of N 300 million.
Badru is facing charges of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretences.
In 2023, he reportedly approached Olugbenga, posing as an influential politician with direct access to high-ranking government officials. He allegedly promised to secure Olugbenga a position on the board of the South West Development Commission in exchange for N 300 million.
Convinced by the ruse, Olugbenga paid the sum in instalments. After receiving the money, Badru fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and cut off all communication.
Olugbenga filed a petition with the Kwara State Police Command in February 2023.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo confirmed the arrest at a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday.
" The Criminal Investigation Department swung into action and traced the suspect to his hideout in Ibadan, where he was apprehended," Ojo said. " During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime."
Police recovered forged documents and other incriminating items from the suspect. Further investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
