Woman Killed by Son in Kwara Buried
The tragedy occurred when the middle-aged son, Kehinde Ibiwoye, clubbed his mother to death with an axe in the presence of several family members.
The deceased, in her late sixties, died instantly from the attack which reportedly shattered her skull.
Kehinde was said to be suffering from epilepsy from his tender age which manifested when he grew up. Family sources said they applied orthodox and local medication to treat the ailment without result. It, however, degenerated and led to the victim exhibiting irrational and aggressive behaviors suggesting he is mentally deranged.
At the time of the tragedy, Kehinde was said to have suddenly barged in with an axe, prompting family members in the house to run for dear lives but the assailant caught up with his frail mother who fell on the ground and stabbed her to death.
Kehinde was later apprehended and taken to a police station in nearby Oke-Onigbin where he is still being held.
A member of the family told newsmen yesterday the woman has been buried in Isanlu-Isin, adding that the family might seek the assailant’s bail to enable him to undergo "psychiatric treatment".
Divisional Police Officer for Oke-Onigbin Police Office DSP Olutekunbi Ekundayo had said last week that the case would be transferred to the State CID Headquarters in Ilorin for investigation.
