NDLEA Kwara State Launches Statewide Campaign Against Drug Abuse
According to a news report from Voice of Nigeria, the Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has initiated a sensitisation and awareness programme to combat drug abuse across the state.
Mohammed Ibrahim, the State Commander of NDLEA, revealed that the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on 26th June each year, aims to enhance action and cooperation towards a drug-free world.
He stated that this year's programme will focus on raising awareness, advocating for investment, empowering communities, facilitating dialogue and collaboration, and engaging and empowering the youth.
Additionally, the command extended the awareness programme to various mosques across the state, including Ilorin, Patigi, Edu, Kiama, Chikanda, Offa, Omu-Aran, and Ilesha-Baruba area commands.
At the Ilorin Sharia Court of Appeal Mosque, the prayer was led by Imam Abdul Qadir Zakariyah.
The clergy dwelled on the need to stay away from illicit drug use and self medication.
He cited the quranic verses that forbids the consumption of alcohol, illicit drugs, and gambling.
Earlier, one of the speakers at the event, Ajanaku Toyin talked on the risk and protective factors in substance abuse and also encouraged religious and ?community leaders to organise enlightenment programmes on consequences of illicit drugs for their members.
Similar programmes were held on Sunday at various churches across the state.
Other places visited during the exercise were Balogun Fulani Market and Mogaji Aare in Ilorin, Kiama Market Square, Chikanda community leaders, Akote Community in Offa, Omu-Aran Okada Riders Association and Ilesha-Baruba Endurance Trek.
