Ex Kwara Governor, Others Emerge Winners in Calabar Golf Kitty
A former military governor of Kwara State Col. Peter AM Ogar and five other golfers emerged winners in a golf kitty organised by the Calabar Golf Club.
The tournament, which drew golfers across the country and some clubs including the Bonny Island Golf Club and Rumukurushi Golf Club was a memorial kitty organised by the Club in honour of Late Pastor Ekpenyong Ita.
The former Kwara state governor who was the fifteenth governor of the state served between 1996 to 1998 emerged winner in the veterans category.
Others winners were Sam Kalio (Overall), Esther Eyo (Ladies), Raymond Ovat (Longest Drive for men), Esther Eyo (Longest drive for ladies), Egbe Aruku (nearest to the pin).
Speaking during the tournament, the captain of the club Maj. Gen. Ahmed Sabo (Rtd) said golf brings people together for entertainment and friendship.
He thanked the sponsor of the kitty Nyoki Ita for adding golfing as part of activities to mark the burial of his late father.
He added that Holier 5 has been acquired and named after Late Pastor Ita and the kitty will become a full competition which will be hosted annually from next year.
On his part, Nyoki Ita, the sponsor of the memorial kitty said the tournament was put together by his beloved family to celebrate the life and times of Late Pastor Ekpenyong Ita.
He described his dad as a father and mentor who lived a good life and served as an inspiration to many.
He also described him as a golf enthusiast who sponsored numerous tournaments like the Obong of Calabar Golf tournament.
He added that the Pastor Ekpenyong Ita Memorial Golf Kitty will not be a one off event but will become an annual event and the Nigerian Golf Federation is aware of the tournament.
