Date: 2022-01-24

Ferocious fire in the early hours of Sunday destroyed two stores fully stocked with different varieties of food items at Oja-tuntun market in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The unfortunate incident, it was gathered, occurred around 6:46am in the market.

It was also gathered that the incident was allegedly caused by careless burning of refuse in the area.

Another fire incident gutted a shopping complex at the weekend located at No. 1, Folusho Hall Kulende Junction in the metropolis.

When contacted on the incidents, spokesperson of the state Fire Service Hassan Adekunle said firemen got to the scene of Ojo-Tuntun market and "immediately they were able to extinguish the fire and also saved many other shops in the market premises."

At the shopping complex, he added that "firemen were able to eliminate the fire on time and out of the 24 shops in the shopping complex only four were affected by the ravaging inferno.

"The inferno emanated due to the careless attitude by one anonymous person in the area who deliberately set some abandoned tyres on fire."
