Kwara Assembly urges Unilorin to reopen admission portal

Date: 2019-09-25

Kwara State House of Assembly has appealed to the authorities of the University of Ilorin to reopen its admission portal to enable candidates of Interim Joint Matriculation Board, IJMB, and Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, JUBEB, to upload their results for admission consideration.

This was part of the resolutions of the House in plenary on Tuesday on a Matter of Urgent Public Importance moved by the member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, Saheed Popoola, supported by Wahab Opakunle (Afon constituency).

The House also called on lawmakers from Kwara State in the National Assembly to liaise with relevant federal agencies with a view to correcting the perceived anomaly in the early closure of the University's portal.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu, in conveying the resolution of the House, noted that the reopening of the portal would enable more qualified candidates with requisite advanced level qualifications to upload their results for admission considerations.

Leading the debate on the motion, Popoola said it was worrisome that the University of Ilorin closed its portal before the results of the JUBEB came out, thus denying many candidates admission opportunities.

Other members of the Assembly that contributed to the debate on the motion included Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/Wajibe /Kemaji), Raphael Adetiba-Olarenwaju (Oke Ero), Abdulkareem Paku (Ipaye /Malete /Oloru), Wahab Opakunle (Afon), Awodiji Omotayo Felix (Irepodun) and Ambali Olatunji Ibrahim (Owode-Onire).

In another development, the Kwara State Sports Commission Bill had also passed through second reading with members underscoring the need for the passage of the Bill into Law to drive sports development in the state.

The Bill was referred by the Speaker, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, to the House Committee on Youth, Sports, Culture, Tourism and Information for Public Hearing.
