Olofa stool: Aggrieved Royal family seeks President Buhari, NJC intervention

Date: 2016-09-16

One of the traditional ruling houses to Olofa stool in Offa, Offa local government area of Kwara state has for the umpteen times, rejected the Supreme Court judgment of July 1st this year in favour of Anilelerin ruling house.

The aggrieved ruling house described the judgment as miscarriage of justice. The Olugbense ruling house is therefore seeking the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and National Judicial Judiciary Commission (NJC) over the judgment.

The ruling house had earlier petitioned the NJC chair and the Chief Justice of Nigeria to probe the Supreme Court's judgement involving Olofa of Offa, Oba Mohammed Mufutau Gbadamosi of Anilelerin ruling house and Alhaji Jimoh Bosere-substituted for Alhaji Shehu Oyeniyi and eight others.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Offa after the house's annual general meeting, the national Chairman of the ruling house Alhaji Abdulmumin Lawal said the judgment is "controversial." In attendance at the meeting were members of the Olugbense ruling house from Oshogbo, Ifon, Inisa towns in Osun state, others came Igosun, Oyun local government area of the state and fifteen from Offa.

He added that the house had sent its petition to NJC over alleged corruption and miscarriage of judgement by Judges that sat on the case at the Supreme Court. Lawal, who berated the Supreme Court Judgemen which affirmed Anilering female ruling house as solely entitled to the Olofa stool describing it as antithetical to Yoruba culture and tradition.

Alhaji Lawal said that "we have considered the Supreme Court Judgement, our people are not happy about it and all of us decided that a petition should be written and forwarded to NJC. "We want President Muhammadu Buhari, NJC to look into the judgement so that the rightful family to Olofa stool would be installed."

The chairman who confirmed that Offa town started from the Olugbense family house called "Idi-Ape", said for over 400 years, their forefathers ruled Offa from the first palace before the town spread over.

He said that some of the kinsmen where first Olofa had settled before establishing Offa town were surprised at the miscarriage of judgement.

In his remark, the ruling house candidate, Prince Abdulrafiu Adegboyega urged members of the family and their supporters to remain calm stressing that they have taken the struggle to God's court.

He added that the family has been receiving tremendous support from people of Offa and outsiders on their struggle to reclaim their forefathers stool saying "we would not allow stranger to continue ruling over legitimate male children lineage."
