Senator Stoned in Bauchi for Supporting Saraki April 19, 2016 6 2392

The Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamma Misau, was at the weekend allegedly stoned by angry youths who wanted to lynch him in his constituency for supporting the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Saraki is standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) following a 13-count charge levelled against him for alleged false and anticipatory asset declaration during his tenure as the Kwara State governor between 2003 and 2011.

THISDAY checks revealed that Misau who is the senator representing Bauchi Central senatorial district in the Senate, was allegedly shouted at and stoned by angry youths in Ningi where he went for a party engagement.

The senator was the sponsor of a bill to amend the CCT Act which the people alleged was brought about to stall the trial of the Senate president at the CCT.

Reports from a source who pleaded anonymity informed THISDAY that the youths chanted abusive words and attacked the senator when they sighted him.

The source said: "Yes he was attacked by youths who were angry with him over his poor representation. He has never talked about anything that will better the life of his constituents, but he is always over the radio defending Saraki on his trial at the CCT."

Another source, Alhaji Nura Manu Soro, who spoke on telephone, expressed fears that the attack on the senator might turn into a security threat as the youths are exchanging hot words with security agencies who rescued the senator. "They accused the security agencies of intimidating and beating some of them in the process," he said.

The senator was said to have been saved by military personnel manning a checkpoint located close to Ningi town where the youths attacked the senator.

When contacted, the state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Auwal Aliyu Jallah, said the party was not aware of the attack. All efforts to get Misau to comment on the incidence at the time of filing this report proved abortive.
