FG to reabsorb Kwara PDP aspirants who withdraw from race
There are indications that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant from Kwara State who resigned their jobs with the federal government to contest for the governorship ticket of the party may be allowed to return to their posts if they forgo their ambitions.
The deal according to sources at a recent meeting between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim with the 15 gubernatorial aspirants and major political stakeholders in the state is to decongest the number vying for the governorship ticket of the party in the state.
There are currently no less than 15 aspirants vying for the governorship ticket of the party while about three of them resigned their appointments with the federal government in line with the party's guidelines to participate in the party's primary. Also present at the meeting which took place in Abuja were Governor Segun Mimiko of Ondo State, Hajia Bola Shagaya, PDP deputy national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus and Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, minister and deputy chairman, National Planning Commission.
The SGF Daily Trust correspondent learnt was said to have informed the aspirants that the president and the party are interested in winning Kwara for the PDP hence the need to reduce friction among the many that are interested in vying for the party's guber ticket.
Sources in the meeting said the SGF suggested that some of them should drop their ambition and support those who have both the resources and capability to prosecute the election stressing that nobody should hope that the party will finance their elections knowing quite well that it is capital intensive.
The SFG then offered that those who were in federal appointments should retain their positions while any among them that has resigned will be reabsorbed if he withdraws from the race while promising those who agree to withdraw from the race federal appointments in the next dispensation.
Attempts to get the comments of the SGF was not going as the line of his media aide, Sam Nwaobasi was not going through when Daily Trust correspondent tried to reach him.
