Promotion of sectional interest dangerous - OPC leader
The National Coordinator of Odua Peoples Congress, Chief Gani Adams, has warned against promoting ethnic or individual interests above national interest.
He said any group or individual agitating for the interest of a tribe in the country against overall national interest may be seen as engaging in an act that could jeopardize the interest, unity and progress of Nigeria.
He spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Sunday on the sidelines of the grand finale of the Press Week of the Correspondents' Chapel, Kwara State branch.
He commended journalists for their untiring efforts and contributions to nation building and Nigeria's development and democracy.
He noted that journalists were at the fore-front of the struggle for the actualisation of June 12, adding that some journalists were injured, molested, harassed and even jailed for the struggle to restore the mandate of the winner of the June 12, 2003 election, Chief Moshod Abiola.
Adams said OPC members will always support peace and harmony in Kwara State and Nigeria.
The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Ma'sud Elelu, commended the chapel for honouring eminent Nigerians in their various fields of endeavors.
He stated that there would be no accountability and transparency in Nigerian institutions without journalists.
A medical doctor, Dr. Emmanuel Onwordi, urged Nigerians to embark on preventive measures to improve on their medical well-being.
