Jungle Justice: 13 Docked For Setting Suspected Kidnapper Ablaze In Ilorin
No more than 13 persons have been dragged before an Ilorin magistrate's court for allegedly setting a suspected kidnapper ablaze in Ilorin, the state capital. According to the police, efforts to rescue the victim, Fatai Ahinde Kayode, a residence of Elekuro Compound, Ilorin, was unsuccessful, as the mob allegedly descended heavily on the team of policemen during the operation, smashing the wind screen of their patrol vehicle .
The police further said that the team leader, Inspector Ismail Sanni and one corporal Aliu Suleiman were injured in the process and a walkie-talkie belonging to the team was snatched.
Their arraignment followed a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit culpable homicide, obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties under written law and mischief contrary to sections 97, 299, 149 and 327 of the penal code law preferred against them.
The accused - Khadri Mahmud (20), Adekeye Adebayo (23), Rainbow Zungwan (35) , John Kennedy (24) , Olalekan Elijah (22), Ola Afolabi (43), Abdullateef Yakub (24), Opeyemi Badmus (22), Usman Olatunji (22),Samson Agboola, (40), Suleiman Adebayo (48) and Oyerinde Samuel (22) - pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them in court. Police prosecutor Chris Koragee urged the court to refuse their bail application.
The court however granted the accused a bail bond of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 5, 2014.
