Kwara gives local contractors ultimatum
The Kwara State Government has directed all the local contractors handling various contracts in the sixteen local government areas to complete their job within 2 weeks.
Similarly, it directed that all the local government chairmen and the head of department, works should monitor the contractors adequately so as to ensure they deliver on time and execute the projects based on specification before the expiration of their tenure.
The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Issa Adamu Bawa, gave the directive while inspecting some of the 2013 Excess Crude Projects executed in Isin and Irepodun Local Government Areas.
At Irepodun, the commissioner stressed that the council chairperson should strive to make sure the contractor handling the bore holes and motorised bore holes projects execute the job according to specification and must be completed within one week.
He emphasized on the need for contractors handling works at the local government areas to always get the projects right from inception, adding that the council must ensure that proper corrections are made where necessary in order to make the projects stand a test of time.
He expressed confidence that the projects provided for the people would further improve their lives especially those at the grassroots, admonishing the beneficiaries to jealously guide them and put them into proper use.
"So far we have seen that the local governments have done their best. They have carried out the projects by specifications, so I want to commend the chairmen and council members, but the most important thing is the completion. Where we have gone and they've not completed I want to appeal to the chairmen and the head of departments of works to see to the completion between now and the next two weeks.
"And also to other local governments because very soon we are going into the election, we have only between now and the next two weeks to ensure that they complete all the projects. It is very important," Bawa stressed.
In some areas where there are problems between the communities and the local government administrators, Bawa promised to wade into the matter with the hope of solving any issue that may arise which could hinder the successful completion of such works.
The commissioner further called for benefitting communities to compliment the efforts of the government, stating that government would always look for ways to assist in addressing the communal problems.
