16-year-old raped, set ablaze in Offa
The incident which reportedly took place around 10:45am on the ill-fated day behind at Nawaru-deen Primary School when the victim who was sent by her parents to buy 5 litres of kerosene at Idi-Ogun Filling Station was returning home.
It was gathered that unknown to the victim, the suspect (Mustapha) along with cohorts, who are now at large laid ambush for the girl in an uncompleted building where she was forcefully lured into.
After raping the teenager, the suspects were said to have poured kerosene in her possession all over her body and subsequently set her ablaze.
The teenager was later abandoned wailing inside the uncompleted building but was however rescued by passers-by who put off the fire on her body.
The Offa Vigilante Group who arrived the scene of the incident later took the victim to Oloffa’s Palace but were ordered by traditional chiefs to take her to Owode Police Station, Offa.
When National Pilot visited the Divisional Commander of Vigilante Unit Command in Offa, Mr. Usman Akindele, confirmed the incident.
He said his men received distressed calls to save the poor girl from losing her life.
Akindele disclosed that from Owode Police Station, the girl, with several burns, was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Mustapha, has been arrested by the Intelligence Department of Offa Police Command while the victim has been relocated to an undisclosed private hospital in Ilorin for further treatment.
Akindele also disclosed that the case has been transferred to Police Headquarters, Ilorin for further investigation.
