Kwara Rep Member Tasks Tinubu For Funding To Boost Rice Production in His Constituency
A member of the House of Representatives, representing Edu /Moro /Patigi of Kwara state, Hon Saba Ahmed Adam has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to support his constituency with funding and the required technical backup for massive production of quality rice.
The lawmaker who appealed while speaking at an empowerment and distribution of palliatives program in collaboration with the federal ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held in Shonga in Edu local government area of the state also said that the beans and other food items distributed as palliatives were produced in his constituency.
“Here in my constituency,it may interest you journalists to know that we have massive lands for rice production, such that can be more than enough for the entire residents in Nigeria to consume.
“We are currently producing some, they are the ones we are giving out as palliatives,but our capacity is low,so also is the funding.
“We are therefore appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's support in terms of funding,and the technical backup,” he said.
Mallam Ahmed Saba also said that the North Central state which are close to River Niger has the capacity and fertile land for the production Maize, Rice and Cassava to make foods available and affordable to the teaming population.
He added that,”Today we are empowering over two hundred people from different walks of lives with working tools, cash grants and food items to alleviate their sufferings”.
The lawmaker also urged the federal government to urgently implement the dry season farming it initiated in the North Central to ensure food sufficiency in the country.
He said the speedy implementation of the programme by the Federal government would enable farmers have access to farm inputs and produce food in large quantities.
According to him,”The project had already been captured in 2023 appropriation and North West has already started and I believe there is the need to speedy up the implementation for the North Central “
He also said that the Conditional Cash Transfer added to the initiative would enable farmers to produce food at ease.
The lawmaker who commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the dry season farming programme to ensure food security in the country appealed to wealthy individuals in the country to assist those in need to cushion their hardship, stressing that government alone could not solve the problems.
He however advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items given to them, adding that they should ensure that they are used for the purposes they are meant for.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal government and the lawmaker for alleviating their sufferings.
They appealed to other wealthy individuals to replicate same gesture to other Communities .
They also urged federal government to give necessary support to the lawmakers who are closer to the people at the grass root and share in their problems.
About two hundred farmers,artisans and women benefited from the empowerment ,Cash grant and Palliatives distributed.
