Kwara to address increase price of sachet water
The Kwara Government will look into the recent increase in the price of sachet water in the state, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Idris Garba, has promised.
He made the promise in Ilorin while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the new price of sachet water.
Garba said he would table the issue of the new price of sachet water in the state before the State Executive Council at its meeting on Wednesday.
Sachet water price in the state recently recorded a 100 per cent increase, moving from N5 to N100 per sachet.
The commissioner said this would be with a view to inviting the operators in the business to a meeting for purposes of reducing the price.
He said he believed some people in the state could be finding the new price of N10 difficult to pay.
The commissioner said there was no justification for the increase in view of available evidence.
Since the state Ministry of Water Resources has not increased the monthly bill paid by sachet water operators in the state, there is then no justification for the new price.
"I have, however, received feedback from the people on the new price of water, and I will present matter before the State Executive Council this week for quick attention," he said.
Garba assured the people of the state that the problem of acute water shortage being experienced in some parts of the state would soon be over.
He said this would be so because the on-going water reticulation project in the Ilorin metropolis would soon be completed. The commissioner said the drilling of three boreholes for each the state would commence before the end of the year.
