The National Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Kwara state on Monday said about 300 bakers in the state are producing breads for public consumption with fake and expired NAFDAC Licenses.

The coordinator said some of them were producing bread under unhygienic environment and without a label on their products for easy identification. Alayi noted that all the illegal acts of some bakers constitute health hazards for the residents of the state.

"NAFDAC can no longer allow production of bread to take place with fake and expired licenses under dirty environment. Safeguarding good health of Kwara resident is our goal", Ajayi said.

The Coordinator said only 10 bakers in the state came for renewal of operating licenses and were living up to expectation. She said NAFDAC would soon begin to seal bakeries that failed to comply with laid down rules and regulations of the Agency.

In a reaction, the Chairman of Master Bakers Association in Kwara, Alhaji Babatunde Gidado, admitted that several of his members were operating with expired NAFDAC licenses, and attributed it to what he described as high cost of obtaining licenses.
