Gbemi Saraki: APC leaders storm Kwara this week
National leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) are to storm Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, this week, to formally receive Senator Gbemisola Rukayyat Saraki, first daughter of late Kwara political kingpin, Dr. Olusola Saraki, into the APC fold, Daily Trust can report.
Daily Trust correspondent reliably gathered that the grand reception would hold Wednesday or Thursday with prominent leaders of the party scheduled to attend.
The event will put an end to the speculation of Gbemi Saraki's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC.
Gbemi, the younger sister of former governor of the state and APC leader, Senator Bukola Saraki, contested the PDP gubernatorial primary poll with 11 other aspirants, which was won by Senator Simeon Ajibola.
After the election, there were reports of alleged maltreatment of Gbemi in the party as her supporters complained that she was not carried along in the activities of the party, fuelling speculations that she might eventually dump the party.
She lent credence to the speculation when she asked her supporters to vote for APC in the last presidential and National Assembly elections.
Daily Trust learnt from competent sources within the APC that a grand reception would be organised this week for Gbemi Saraki.
Her brother had, last week, stated that formal announcement on his sister's defection would be made "in due course", adding: "You know things are happening"
"Yes there have been discussions at various levels and organs of the party at the state and national levels which have culminated in the reception to be organised before the end of this week" a source who did not want to be named said. "The reality will soon dawn on the PDP that Gbemi Saraki is no longer with them."
