Orphanage Foundation Chair Seeks Budgetary Allocation For Orphans
The chairman of Islamic Orphanage Foundation, Ilorin, Kwara State, Architect Seefiullahi Ahmed Alege has called on the National Assembly to enact laws that will make it mandatory for the federal government to make annual budgetary allocation for the care of the orphans in the country.
He urged state Houses of Assembly to follow suit by enacting a law making it compulsory for local government councils to equally set aside funds to cater for orphans.
Alege observed that government at both federal and state levels and wealthy Nigerians have neglected the orphans, thereby making them to be either wayward or turn out to be irresponsible citizens.
He said that the Ilorin Islamic Orphanage Foundation, established in 2002 with only 10 children now has 217 orphans.According to him, 65 of the orphans in the foundation are studying at various tertiary institutions across the country. He said the foundation’s major constraint is funding, stressing that last year alone, it spent almost N3.5 million to take care of the feeding, housing, education and the health care of the orphans.
