CCT: Saraki loyalists should remain calm and be prayerful - Akanbi Oke

Date: 2016-02-12

Loyalists of the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki have been urged to remain calm and prayerful following Friday's ruling by the Supreme Court asking the Code of Conduct Tribunal to continue the trial of the senator over alleged false assets declaration.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart from Ojuekun/Zarumi ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Olanrewaju Akanbi Oke, expressed displeasure over the apex court's verdict.

In an exclusive interview with The Herald, Akanbi-Oke also dismissed the call by some senators that Saraki should step aside, describing them as enemies of democracy. He urged the Senators under the aegis of the Unity Forum to align with the voice of the majority in the national assembly and be guided constitutionally.

"Senator Saraki since assumption of office as Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial district has been engaging in activities that further promote the nation's legal system and national unity" he said.

He however asked the loyalists of the Senate President to remain calm and be prayerful, adding that "the current political persecution would eventually vanish".

The frontline politician however called on the members of the opposition, who had been reacting on the issue to follow due process and be diplomatic in their approach. He enjoined them not to truncate the nation's nascent democratic process.
