Kwara NUT suspends Teachers strike for three weeks over biometric data

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara branch yesterday announced the suspension of over two months strike embark upon by Teachers in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools for three weeks.

The Chairman of the NUT in Kwara, Comrade Abubakar Musa disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin yesterday.

Musa said the three weeks suspension of the strike was to enable biometric data of all striking teachers in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools take place. The NUT Boss expressed optimism that the biometric data would fish out ghost teachers in the state.

He directed all the striking teachers in all the 16 Local Government areas of the state to make themselves available in their respective schools for the biometric data.

"The Kwara NUT is just suspending the strike for three weeks to allow teachers undergo biometric data to actually determine their number", he said. The NUT Chairman condemned the act of taking loans from commercial banks to pay salaries by the state government.

He expressed hope that the biometric data which commenced on Monday will fish out ghost teachers and place teachers in their rightful grade levels. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Primary and Junior Secondary Teachers began an indefinite strike action in Kwara in November, 2015 over unpaid four months salaries.
