Court remands man for snatching motorcycle
An Ilorin Magistrate Court has remanded a 24-year-old man, Wasiu Olawoyin of Eyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, for allegedly snatching a motorcycle at gunpoint.
The accused was arrested following a tip-off on August 14 at ;D' Divisional Police Headquarters, Adewole, Ilorin, that some hoodlums snatched a Bajaj motorcycle at gunpoint along Mandate Area, Ilorin.
A team of police patrol from LUBCON Police Post, Adewole, Ilorin, chased the suspected hoodlums and apprehended the accused, while others escaped. When the accused was searched, a black locally made pistol together with the said motorcycle was allegedly recovered from him.
Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, clearly established that the accused and Lanre now at large criminally conspired and robbed Saheed Mohammed of Ipata-Oloje, Ilorin, of his motorcycle valued at N120,000 at gunpoint.
The accused was brought before the court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearm. The offences contravened Sections 6B, 1(2) and 3(1) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor, Mr. E. Isaac objected to the bail of the accused on the ground that the alleged offences are capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable. Magistrate Osuolale Ajayi agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin and adjourned the case till September 7 for further mention.
