Saraki asks assembly staff to shun corruption
Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday warned the leadership and members of the National Assembly chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria to shun corruption, inefficiency and bureaucratic delays in the discharge of their duties.
The senate president, who stated this while receiving the officers of the association in his office, acknowledged that the workers were key to the success of the 8th Senate.
He said that the upper chamber under his watch would continue to make issues of staff welfare a top priority.
He also assured them that the Senate was ready to provide a conducive environment necessary for the staff to deliver on their mandate.
He, therefore, urged them to, in turn, reciprocate the gesture through hard work and dedication to their duties.
Saraki said, “I want to also urge you to tell your members, particularly, in this time of change that we have all fought hard for; the change that ushered in the new government during the last elections; that we must change from the way things were done in the past.
“We must avoid bureaucratic delays, we must avoid inefficiency and we must shun corrupt practices.
“These things are important. It is important for us to accept that things cannot be done the way it used to be.
“We will do our best to give you a conducive and enabling environment so that the hardship that some of you are going through will be reduced and, in return, we will expect productivity, we will expect that things are done differently.”
The Chairman of the National Assembly branch of PASAN, Mr. Bature Musa, said the emergence of Saraki as the Senate President has been a great blessing to all members of the union.
Meanwhile, the senate president on Thursday constituted a six-member delegation led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu to pay a condolence visit to Ile-Ife over the demise of Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
The decision followed a motion sponsored by Senator Babajide Omoworare (Osun-East senatorial district) drawing the attention of the senate to the death of the monarch and urged the upper chamber to accord the monarch the necessary respect.
