The immediate past acting National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has described the media in the country as a strong pillar that holds the nation's democracy, just as he attributed his success while in office as secretary and acting chairman of the ruling party (PDP) respectively to the outstanding role play by the media especially the media from his home State, Kwara.

Alh Baraje made the remarks during a parley with the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Kwara State Council, at his country home Ilorin. According to him, his achievement in office was predicated upon his passion, integrity and dedication which he said was devoid of non-material acquisition.

He admonished the politicians aspiring for positions of leadership to take into account, the needs to sacrifice and render selfless service to the nation with high level of integrity and pay least attention to personal gain.

Speaking against the backdrop of the current security challenges facing the nation, he lamented that it goes beyond local insurgence, it is international, that called for leaders at all levels to educate their subjects on the need to embrace peace.
