Enyimba Chasing Record in Ilorin

Date: 2015-07-01

Enyimba striker Chimezie Amanfor has said his side want to an achieve eight-match unbeaten record at Kwara United this evening. The two-time African champions will be the guests of Harmony Boys in the Glo Premier League midweek Match Day 15 clash at the Kwara State Stadium in llorin.

Amanfor said his side are mindful of the importance the game holds for the home side, but insisted the clash is key in their quest to see off unbeaten the remaining matches of the first stanza.

"I understand the match is a must-win game for the coaching crew of Kwara United. "Incidentally, the clash is also of the targeted matches for us to extend our unbeaten match record to eight.

"We have just lost two matches to Kano Pillars and FC Ifeanyiubah in the ongoing league season and our calculation is to see off unbeaten the remaining four matches on the first stanza calendar.

"It is no more news that referees have improved greatly in their performance so we are determined and ready to contest favourably the three points at stake in the encounter with Kwara United.

"We are motivated to take this game and a home victory against Nasarawa United on Sunday in Aba. "The encounter is certain to be difficult for both sides but we are sure to avoid defeat," said the former Akwa United marksman to supersport.com.

The Elephants of Aba are third on the league log on 26 points, one point behind leaders Wikki Tourists. Elsewhere this evening, Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo is looking forward to his team extending the fine run in the Nigeria league when the Flying Antelopes welcome champions Kano Pillars to Enugu.

Amapakabo has led Rangers to three wins in four matches since he replaced former boss Kelechi Emeteole, who was asked to step aside by management of the Enugu club. "It is just going to be another game (vs Pillars) and we shall give it all it deserves to wrestle the maximum points at stake," said the young coach.

"Pillars are a good side and we shall give them that respect but ensure the business is done on the pitch to keep hopes alive." However, despite Rangers remarkable run under his watch, Amapakabo insisted he will not make any promises as regards how Rangers will fare this season.

"I am not cut out for making promises and I don't want to deviate from that now," he maintained. "All I know is that we have 72 points to fight for till the end of the league and we shall give our best in all the matches to grab as many points as possible to end in a respectable position at the end of the season."

He said his understanding with the players was behind the club's recent form. "There is no magic involved but just the simple belief of the players in my ability and I also trust their loyalty. With this perfect chemistry, I believe we will go places," he explained.
