NLC Urges Buhari to Ensure Improved Power Reform
Deputy President of the Joe Ajero-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Issa Aremu, has urged the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure an improved and robust power reform that would serve as a platform for economic prosperity of the country.
Speaking in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital during the quadrennial congress of a faction of the state chapter of NLC held at International Tobacco Company (ITC) Hall, Ilorin, Aremu said the present power reform was killing Nigerians and should be thoroughly looked into in order to add values to the socio-economic development of the nation.
According to him, "It is disheartening that, the current power reform is not improving the nation's economy as the power generation and distribution remain bad every day."
He added: "Instead of looking for the way out, what Nigerians are facing is higher tariff and this is killing us.
"What we are looking for is positive power reform that would boost the nation’s economy and not the one that will "deform," the populace.
"At least Nigeria must be able to generate 20,000 mega watts so as to allow industries to grow and thereby reviving the nation's economy."
Aremu who urged the president-elect to look into the power reform, said: "It is by so doing that the nation's industries will be developed and there will be more employment opportunities for Nigerians".
He also advised all other elected representatives to use their positions to bring positive change to the socio- economic well being of the populace.
Aremu noted that politicians should ensure that they abide by their promises so as to move the nation forward.
He, however, urged the incoming administration to look into the workers, welfare so as to bring new lease of life to the nation's workers.
