Bricklayer held for alleged armed robbery

A 19-year-old bricklayer, Idowu Yakubu aka Gadafi of Oja-Oba Area, Ilorin has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for dispossessing a man of his valuables at gunpoint.

The accused allegedly conspired with two others now at large and entered into the shop of the victim, Yusuf Shuaib at Niger Road, Ilorin, and robbed him of Nokia 305 handset valued at N6,000; studio ear guard valued at N7,500 and eight other handsets belonging to the victim's customers.

Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ilorin, arrested the accused following a tip-off on October 13, 2014 that the accused and others at large were dispossessing innocent people of their valuables at gunpoint.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation at the Department of Criminal Investigation, Ilorin, revealed that the accused and others, Bola and Kehinde now at large were the armed bandits that robbed the victims of their properties at gunpoint.

The prosecutor, Corporal Oderinde Abideen objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), custody, Ilorin, to enable the police carry out discreet investigation.

The trial magistrate, A.M. Ndakene ordered that the accused be remanded at the SCID custody, Ilorin, until October 30, 2014 when the case would come up for further mention.
