Kwara assembly wants approval for rehabilitation of Okuta waterworks
The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to approve the rehabilitation of Okuta Waterworks in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
The assembly made the call in its resolution after adopting the report of its Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources on acute water shortage in Okuta spanning several years.
The Speaker, Razak Atunwa, while reading the resolution of the assembly urged the governor to approve funds for the repair of the waterworks as contained in the 2014 budget.
He said the measure would eliminate the hardship residents of Okuta community undergo to get water.
The legislature similarly called on Baruten Local Government Council to carry out immediate repair of all boreholes in Okuta.
This, according to the Speaker, would mitigate the problem of water shortage in the area.
Also, during the Wednesday plenary, the assembly urged the state government to provide succour to many residents of Kemanji in Kaima Local Government Area of the state, who were recently displaced by rainstorm.
This followed the revelation of the plight of the victims by Alhaji Mande Umar (APC), representing Banni-Adena Constituency under matters of urgent public importance.
Umar, who did not specify the number of persons displaced following the rainstorm, urged the assembly to take urgent steps to ameliorate their sufferings.
