Ahmed, Saraki Preach Love, Peace, Stability
Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed Friday enjoined Christians and other Nigerians to use the Easter season to pray fervently for peace and continued stability in the country.
Also, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment and former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki has urged Nigerians to let the message of selflessness and unconditional love as preached and demonstrated by Jesus Christ reflects in their lives.
The duo gave the advices in separate statements in Ilorin on Friday to felicitate with Christians and Nigerians on the Easter celebrations.
Governor Ahmed in his statement said that, "it has become imperative that Nigerians should employ the potency of prayers in the quest to tackle the spate of violence, kidnapping and murder that have become rampant in the country".
The Governor urged Christians to imbibe the enduring lessons of forgiveness, selflessness and perseverance that the 40 day Lent, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that the Easter Season teaches.
"There is no better time than now for Christians in Nigeria to rededicate themselves to the service of God and work towards making the society a better place in line with the teaching of Jesus Christ, he said.
Also, Saraki said that, "our nation is being faced with daunting challenges. We are sure that if the spirit of love is demonstrated, the killings, and other forms of social uprising will stop".
He reminded Nigerians that without sacrifice and selfless spirit, "we cannot progress as a nation and development cannot be accelerated. "Therefore, without placing Nigeria above our individual interest, we may remain stagnant- our religious believes preach same message of sacrifice, selflessness and love and not ethnic or regional affiliation. This is a lesson for us all.
"United in this singular belief, we must keep praying and working for our nation regardless of how the challenges seem insurmountable".
"Our journey as a nation heading for the promise land must be firm, knowing that our tomorrow will be better than our today - we all just have to come together to work towards it.
"Let's pray for peace, unity and progress of this nation during this sacred season. Let us remember the families of those who died in deadly attacks over the years, particularly in the recent time. May Allah console and comfort them that with firm faith in the Almighty, out of darkness, may come forth light.
"As this season is celebrated; we must be conscious of thematic issues surrounding the death and resurrection of Christ i.e sacrifice for men and love for others the way you love yourself; and apply these themes to our daily lives and relationships to one another as Nigerians in order to move our society and the nation at large forward."
