5 robbery suspects remanded in Ilorin prison
Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin has remanded five suspects for alleged armed robbery. They are, Abdullahi Lanre, 23, Mahmud Ridwan, 20, Idowu Makanjuola, 23, Tunde Sheu, 25, and Mustapha Wasiu, 28
Prosecutor Abideen Oderinde informed the court that the police intercepted the accused while on routine patrol at Saw-mill Garage area, Ilorin, on March 15.
He said in the course of searching the accused vehicle, one Tunde Sheu brought out a locally-made pistol and attacked the policemen, leading to exchange of gun fire.
Abideen added that the accused were arrested by the police and the following items recovered from them: One locally-made pistol with three life cartridges, one small axe, one kia Rio saloon car with registration number FFA 626 AE and 15 handsets.
Others were, two pairs of number plate LK238AAA and AQ211FFA, one mini laptop, three necklace, two wristwatches, one ring, two criminal charms and the sum of N120, 350
The prosecutor however said that the accused were arraigned on a three-count charge of Criminal Conspiracy Contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code Law and sections 27, 1(2) of Armed robbery and Firearms Act Cap R11 Law of Nigeria 2004.
While he objected to the bail of the accused on ground that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable, Magistrate Mariam Mogaji also refused the plea of the accused and ordered their remand in Okekura Prison, Ilorin and adJourned the case to Monday 14, April 2014 for mention.
