Kwara State Aims to Vaccinate 1.5 Million Children Against Polio

Date: 2024-04-23

According to a report from Daily Trust, the Kwara State Government has launched a massive vaccination campaign targeting approximately 1.5 million children aged zero to five years across the 16 LGAs of the state.

Dr. Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, revealed this during the commencement of the second round of polio vaccination in the state. She emphasized that the vaccination is free of charge and highlighted the government's commitment to issuing Immunisation Certificates (Purple Cards) at no cost to children who have completed their routine vaccinations.

With over 500 health facilities providing routine immunization (RI) and a robust cold room chain system in place, Kwara State is well-equipped to carry out the vaccination campaign effectively.

Dr. Elelu credited the unwavering support and financial commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak for enabling the agency to reach over 1.5 million children with life-saving polio vaccines during the first round in March 2024.

She urged mothers and caregivers to ignore any misinformation about the vaccine, reassuring them of its safety and efficacy, with no risk of overdose.
